EMV Artist-in-Residence Alon Sariel invites bowed and plucked string players to explore Bach’s music between the bow and the plectrum. In the tranquil atmosphere of the University of British Columbia campus, Sariel will lead the workshop’s orchestra, coach chamber ensembles and hold public masterclasses. A wide range of topics will be discussed, from better understanding of harmony to creating performance possibilities.
The orchestral/chamber sessions will concentrate on early music (works by Bach, Marcello, Vivaldi, Geminiani and their contemporaries), the repertoire for the private coaching is up to the student.
The sheet music for the orchestral/chamber sessions will be sent two weeks after the subscription deadline. Participants will have the opportunity to receive coaching on their piece(s) of choice, preferably Bach’s solo music.
This course is intended for musicians of intermediate/advanced level, amateurs and professionals, interested in historical
performance practice.
Schedule:
Morning: 10 am – 1 pm
Lunch: 1-2 pm
Afternoon: 2 pm – 5 pm

Alon Sariel is one of today’s most versatile performers, known as a multi-instrumentalist in the realm of plucked strings with a growing reputation as a fascinating Bach interpreter.
