Sarah Ballantyne completed a Bachelor of Music, Performance, degree at McGill University’s Faculty of Music, in Montreal, in 1986. She subsequently entered into a Graduate Diploma programme in Arts Administration at Concordia University. Born and raised in Montreal, Quebec, she moved to Vancouver in 1989 to pursue her career in Arts Management.She quickly joined the team of the Vancouver Cultural Alliance (later, the Alliance for Arts & Culture) to develop the Skillsbank (a programme joining business professionals with the arts community).
In 1991, Sarah Ballantyne was recruited to join the staff of Early Music Vancouver, where she has been responsible for many of the organisation’s successes during her tenure – first as Administrator and Volunteer Coordinator, and for more than ten years has served as Associate and then Managing Director. Ms. Ballantyne has been instrumental in facilitating the growth of Early Music Vancouver, both in terms of programming activity and staffing, and she continues to widen the responsibilities and duties of the Managing Director.
Sarah Ballantyne served for many years of the Board of the New Orchestra Workshop Society, and was a long-standing volunteer of the Coastal Jazz & Blues Society, and is currently the President of the Vancouver Independent Music Centre Society. She intends to return to a more active volunteer schedule as her two children (aged 9 and 14) become more independent.
