Matthew White | Executive and Artistic Director

Matthew White joined EMV as Executive and Artistic Director at the beginning of the 2013-14 season after having spent three years as Executive Director of Pacific MusicWorks in Seattle. Before that, in a previous life, he had gained international acclaim as one of Canada’s leading countertenors and as the founding director of the Quebec-based ensemble Les Voix Baroques.

Operatic engagements included work with the Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Glyndebourne Touring Opera, New York City Opera, Houston Grand Opera, Cleveland Opera, Opera Atelier, and Pacific Opera Victoria among others.

On the concert stage he worked with groups including Bach Collegium Japan (Masaaki Suzuki), Collegium Vocale Ghent (Phillipe Herrewheghe, Marcus Creed, H.C Rademann), Le Concert D’Astrée (Emmanuelle Haim), Le Concert Spirituel (Hervé Niquet), Nederlands BachVereniging (Jos van Veldhoven), Arsys Bourgogne (Pierre Cao), Tafelmusik (Jeanne Lamon, Ivars Taurins), Les Violons du Roy (Bernard Labadie), Ensemble Arion, Portland Baroque Orchestra (Monica Huggett), Concerto Palatino (Bruce Dickey), the New York Collegium (Andrew Parrott), Le Parlement de Musique (Martin Gester), Oregon Bach Festival (Helmuth Rilling, John Nelson), Carmel Bach Festival (Bruno Weil), Capella Brugensis (Patrick Peire), Israel Camerata, San Francisco Symphony, Toronto Symphony, the CBC Vancouver Orchestra, Symphony Nova Scotia, Calgary Symphony, Edmonton Symphony and Portland Symphony. He has a appeared at the Vancouver, Boston, Brugges, Ambronay, Regensburg, Stift Melk and Utrecht Early Music Festivals.

He is both a Juno and Grammy nominated artist and has recorded for Analekta, Atma, Channel Classics, CBC records, ASV, BIS, Naxos, Glossa, and Harmonia Mundi.
