Dear Friends and Patrons of EMV,
It is with very heavy hearts that in consideration of the health and welfare of our audiences and artists, EMV has decided to cancel the rest of our 50th anniversary season. This is the prudent way to proceed and we wish you all continued good health.
As we come to terms with the severe impact that this will have on our organization, I ask you to consider that those who will be most directly affected by these cancellations are the artists. They are at the heart of what we value and support as an organization and they are facing a prolonged period of serious financial hardship. For many of them, as independent contractors, there is currently little to no public safety net to help them through this sort of disaster scenario. Where we can, EMV is doing our best to pay artists at least partial fees to help them deal with this unprecedented situation. We are also taking this opportunity to think creatively about providing online substitutes for live performances that give our audiences access to great music while also providing musicians with a platform.
In considering what to do with tickets you have purchased, there is an important and straightforward way that you can help: You can donate the value of the ticket back to EMV. This generous gesture will help us weather this crisis and support the gifted artists that make our lives so much richer. As I have often said, the musicians who grace our stages could have chosen to do many other things with their extraordinary intelligence, discipline, and commitment. Instead, they have committed their lives to the creation of beauty. In many cases, they have done so at the cost of financial stability and other professional benefits that many of us take for granted. In fact, they are among our most generous and important donors.
Your options:
- Donate your tickets back to EMV and receive a tax-deductible receipt.
- Exchange your tickets for a future EMV concert, valid for use in the 2020 Vancouver Bach Festival or as part of EMV’s 2020-21 Main concert season.
- Receive a refund for the full amount you paid for the ticket.
To discuss these options, please contact the Chan Centre box office at 604.822.2697 or chan.tickets@ubc.ca
As new information unfolds we will be in regular communication about our plans for the 2020 Vancouver Bach Festival and 2020-21 Main Season.
The health and safety of our patrons, artists, volunteers, and staff members are our priority and we thank you for your understanding and support during these extraordinary circumstances.
We look forward to welcoming you back soon.
Sincerely,
Matthew White
Artistic & Executive Director
